Geocache Description:

A previous cache here; "Dockwray Troll"  GC4E48T  was placed in 2013 and went missing in 2018. It was archived.  The bridge has an interesting history and deserves a cache.  Lets hope this one last more than five years.

The bridge used to be the Romney Footbridge, situated where the Romney Road bridge is now, the furthest downstream of the current bridges in the Kendal.  In the early 1990s, after someone had tried to drive a car over the footbridge, the crossing was rebuilt in concrete as a road bridge.  The old footbridge,  that had stood for nearly 100 years was to be scrapped.  Lobbying by the Kendal Civic Society resulted in the old footbridge being saved and rebuilt where you are now. There's a picture of the original bridge in the gallery

The coordinates bring you to a green Kendal Civic Society plaque.  The cache can be found at N54 20. A (D-A) D    W2 44. (C-B) D D  where ABC and  D can be  found from the two dates on the plaque.    A99B  and 1C0D.

The cache is a magnetic box
