It was in 1755 that a Congregational Church was opened in Warley Lane, now named King's Road. The building was in use until 1847, when it was pulled down and a new church built in New Road. Now the only reminder of the old church is the disused grave yard in front of the Oce Building.
Late in the 1970s and in the early 80s, considerable work was done on the interior of the New Road church and services are now held upstairs. The ground floor is in constant use for church related activities.
Out of interest, the building to the right of the church is the old Brentwood Court House.
