Geocache Description:

06 January 2024, 12:00 - 12:30

Please note that this event and any subsequent caching in the area are separate and distinct. Doing one does NOT require you to do the other.

Schedule:

12:00 - 12:05 - Arrive. Which direction your vehicle is pointing will depend on which direction you came from.
12:05 - 12:10 - Sign log. Do administrative things.
12:10 - 12:25 - Do socializing things. Get to know your fellow cachers.
12:25 - 12:30 - Wipe the tear from your eye as we wind down the event and sing "Happy Trails to You". Please take any trackables with you.

The obvious questions that arise with this are:

1) Why are you having an event in the middle of nowhere?

2) Why this date and time?

Easy enough.

1) There are a bunch of high value D/T combination caches in the vicinity (primarily to the north) which some of us will be going for after the event. It is a WV event which I recently noted I do not have after discovering an event challenge. And I could add that the highest point in Berkeley County is not far away (N 39 26.328' W 78 11.681'), but I won't mention it at this point.

2) The WV hunting season will have gotten over the previous week, so we can now get back to the woods in WV to grab caches. The daylight is short (sunset is at 4:50 PM). Since there are four night caches in the area, if becomes easier to grab them and be home at a reasonable time.

There are multiple ways into Sleepy Creek (and the cache mob GZ). Many are paved (some are not). If you are coming from the east, I suggest you go to Shanghai and take Hampshire Grade road to the top of the hill. From the west, I suggest Winchester Grade Rd. from Unger.

There is nowhere to purchase either food or drink in the immediate area, so come prepared. Bathrooms will be al fresco. The roads can be narrow and winding. Gas stations are not THAT far away, but you probably don't want to risk it. Dress appropriate for the weather. I'm just sayin'.

I have a spreadsheet of what I think is in the general area. If you would like a copy of it, please send me a PM with an address to send it to.
