Keith Elliott, born in 1916 in Apiti, Manawatu, had a multifaceted life marked by farming, provincial rugby, and military service. After attending Feilding Agricultural College, he joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force during World War II. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, he displayed remarkable courage during the Western Desert campaigns, notably at El Ruweisat Ridge in 1942. Despite being wounded, Elliott led a bayonet charge, capturing enemy positions and prisoners. For this, he received the Victoria Cross and a commission in the field. Post-war, he married and became an Anglican minister, serving in various parishes and roles, including the Maori Mission. Keith Elliott passed away in 1989 at the age of 73 in Wellington.
