IMPORTANT NOTE: Cache ratings are subjective and just a guideline. It is the responsibility of every cacher to know their abilities and limitations. Park at the Parking waypoint. The best access is probably at the Access waypoint. This is a very simple multicache. The physical cache is located at N 21° 58.(A) W 159° 20.(B) where (A) and (B) are revealed at the published coordinates.
Lihue’s Secret Scrubland Trails are paved golf cart paths still ridable on a forgotten portion of the old Marriott golf course that has been reclaimed by nature. The entire 27-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed Kauai Lagoons Golf Club, was sold in December of 2014. The trails were officially opened to the public a couple years later and new trail markers erected. The trails are flanked by palms, massive banyan trees, kahalahala or screw pines, African Tulips, and more. The area is home to Egrets, Nenes, Mynas, and unfortunately plenty of chickens. Golden Plovers, our winter visitors from Alaska, have beautiful plumage in the spring. I saw nene fledglings with their parents while scouting the cache site. This area has been reclaimed once again, this time as a farm to source local restaurants. You will see signs for "The Farm" about. Please follow all rules posted at the posted coordinates. Picking fruit is Kapu (forbidden).
The trail system is suitable for biking, jogging, and walking. The best biking portion is a 1.6 mile loop of uninterrupted paved trails around the golf course. This cache only goes through a small portion of these trails, the majority of which are South East of the farm area. Other sections of the trails may be gravel, rocked off, overgrown, or closed to pedestrians. Use the trails responsibly because there are hairpin and blind turns. Use a bell if biking. Everyone should pay close attention to other users especially if you are using earbuds. Expect to cover a minimum of 3 miles round trip from the parking area depending on your course.
Unlike my other caches, this hide is in an area used by muggle bikers, muggle joggers, muggle walkers, and muggle landscaping and farm workers. Please be aware of muggles in the area before grabbing and when returning the cache. Please return the cache well hidden so it does not get muggled. Thanks for your kokua (cooperation).
