Neenah, WI
Winnebago for "water." James Doty gave the name to the locality. It is claimed that the name originated in the answer which an old Native American once gave to Governor Doty, when the latter pointing to the Fox River asked "What is that," -- meaning to ask the name of the river. The Native American, supposing that he wished to know what water was called in the Winnebago language, answered "neenah" which means water or running water.
Early in the 20th century, Neenah reputedly had more millionaires per capita than any other city nationwide.
Over the years, many local geocaches have focused on the History of the city. This is a bit different and will highlight the Future of Neenah. Future Neenah, incorporated in 1983, is a not-for-profit civic development group engaged in the leadership, management and funding of a wide range of programs, projects and events in Neenah, Wisconsin, a city of 25,000 situated in a region of over 300,000.
