Geocache Description:

17 February 2024, 10:00 - 12:00

The third annual event to celebrate all things Rhubarb, with Queen Victoria!!!

This event gets good feedback from attendees, so I'm more than happy to host it again.

If you have not been to an event before, please make yourself known and I'm sure you will be made welcome. We are a very friendly bunch (well mostly!!) LOL

The Rhubarb Triangle is a 9-square-mile (23 km2) area of West Yorkshire, England between WakefieldMorley and Rothwell famous for producing early forced rhubarb. It includes KirkhamgateEast ArdsleyStanleyLofthouse and Carlton. The Rhubarb Triangle was originally much bigger, covering an area between LeedsBradford and Wakefield. From the 1900s to 1930s, the rhubarb industry expanded and at its peak covered an area of about 30 square miles (78 km2).

Rhubarb is native to Siberia and thrives in the wet cold winters in Yorkshire. West Yorkshire once produced 90% of the world's winter forced rhubarb from the forcing sheds that were common across the fields there.

In February 2010, Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb was awarded Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status by the European Commission’s Protected Food Name scheme after being recommended by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

From Friday 16th to Sunday 18th Wakefield will be holding it's annual Rhubarb festival.

Lets meet, chat Geocaching, and catch up. After the event you can take the opportunity to see what the city has to offer, Rhubarb wise. Perhaps even taste some of the weird and wonderful foods and drinks on offer.
