Welcome to Mount Airy's newest park, a spot where visitors can relax right in the heart of downtown. This site used to be home to a number of structures, with the last being a municipal storage shed. When the storage space was relocated to the public works maintenance yard, the old foundation and cracked, concrete slab was abandoned and left without a purpose. That is until town staff had a brilliant idea to transform the location into a small park where visitors can could take advantage of the prime location within view of Park Avenue and Main Street, common routes for parades. The town's municipal parking lot offers easy access to the park as well as a short walk to MacKenzie the caboose, Historical Society, and many downtown businesses.
Local artist Matt Mercer created the stunning mural which combines iconography representing the state of Maryland, the black-eyed susan and the coat of arms of the Calvert and Crossland families. Thanks to all the businesses, community groups, and individuals who contributed to this project (see the town's post for details).
