Description:
There have been a number of calendars used over the years. In 751 BC the Roman king established a calendar with 12 months to align with the 12 cycles of the moon in a year. This calendar had only 355 days per year. In 45 BC a new calendar, called the Julian calendar, was developed with a more accurate 365 days in a year, with a leap day every four years in February. That leap day was a bit too much, so in 1582 the Gregorian calendar was introduced. In this calendar, no century year can be a leap year unless it is exactly divisible by 400. (ie 2000 was a leap year, but not 1900). This is the calendar we use today. (source: https://research.reading.ac.uk/)
