OōEli is a comprehensive architectural complex in Hangzhou, designed by the renowned architect Renzo Piano and opened in October 2020. It not only serves as a multifunctional art district encompassing office, art gallery, art center, fashion hub, design hotel, and art commerce, but also one of the most popular places among young people in Hangzhou for shopping, art exhibitions, photography, and socializing in recent years.
OōEli comprises 17 individual buildings, centered around a central square called the "Urban Living Room." Within this area, you'll find central gardens, a water mirror plaza, and a grove of trees, creating a cutting-edge connection with the external environment while maintaining internal cohesion. The 17 main buildings are constructed using exposed concrete and were crafted over five years by the Italian DOTTOR team. The water mirror plaza in OōEli features a thin layer of water covering its surface, measuring only 2cm deep. The 11 sunken courtyards within the "Urban Living Room" were meticulously crafted by Japanese Zen garden master, Toshiaki Matsuono, and his team, each themed around the elements of wind, water, and emptiness.
