This is the 4th cache of a series of caches based on the book Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
This series is located on the Luray Hawksbill Greenway Trail (LHGT):
Thornfield Hall was a house which belonged to Edward Rochester. He lived there with his ward, Adele. It is there where Jane Eyre came to live as governess to Adele. It is where Jane and Edweard fall in love despite the differences in their social status. Jane and Edward almost get married but the wedding was stopped by Richard Mason. It is learned that Richard was the brother of Edward's first wife Bertha and that Bertha still lived. Shocked by this news, Jane runs away with nothing but the clothes on her back and ends up at Moor House.

We learn that Bertha suffered from severe mental illness and was locked on the third floor of Thornfield Hall, cared for by Grace Poole. In a fit of rage, Bertha set fire Thornfield Hall and jumped to her death.
Thornfield Hall was destroyed in the fire and Edward Rochester was hurt trying to save Bertha. He lost one of his hands and one of his eyes. The remaining eye was injured and for a whie he was blind. Eventually he regained partial vision in that eye. From Thornfield Hall, Rochester moved to Ferndean Hall.
NOTE: The Norton Conyers manor is believed to be the inspiration for Thornfield Hall:
