Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES, although you will find it close by. This is the first in a series of puzzle caches around BYU that use some of my favorite cache formats or puzzle types. Most of these are pretty easy, but some will take more effort than others.

Older geocachers will remember webcam caches. I'll admit, I really do miss them, while I understand the reasons for their ultimate demise. There are a few legacy Webcams still out there that have been grandfathered in, some within an hour's drive of BYU! This is a tribute to that geocache format.

BYU is currently undergoing some big changes. The Arts and Music schools, both of which have found home in the Franklin S. Harris Fine Arts Center (HFAC) for nearly six decades, are on the move. Hosting legendary venues and galleries, the HFAC served BYU well. However, crumbling facades, aging, inefficient systems, a growing student body, and a maze of hallways decried by students (athough I never had any issues) saw the need for the two new buildings, one for each school.

BYU bought old Provo High School and moved both schools' operations there as the HFAC was demolished. The new Music school was built just south of the BYU Creamery on 9th East, and the new Arts building is in the process of being built on the site of the HFAC.

So alumni and the public can monitor the construction of these projects, the colleges set up a series of live webcams that are pointed at various angles around the project. This means there are almost ten active webcams around campus!

What did I name this cache? Oh, right, The Three Towers. The Two Towers is a great movie. This cache can be found at:

N 40° 14.FFF' W 111° 39.GGG'

Now for the puzzle:

  • How many webcams show the BYU bell tower in the background? This is B.
  • How many webcams show the Hinckley Alumni Building Tower in the background? This is Y.
  • How may webcams show the Kimball Tower (formerly known as the SWKT)? A sliver counts. This is U.
  • FFF = 53 × B × (Y^2)
  • GGG = (55 × Y) + U
  • The final will take a keen eye. LOOK OUT FOR MUGGLES. Please replace it as found or better.

Enjoy ;)
