This cache is across the street from where Ella's Deli used to stand, and you can view the tribute to the Ella's that is there now. Look across the E Washington Ave at the apartment building with the mural. The name of the building is Ella to commemorate the former Ella's Deli, which was so much more than a restaurant to generations of Madisonians and visitors to the area. There was a toy train running around the interior on tracks above the tables and many toys decorating the space. It was a place to get ice cream, soup, and sandwiches, but most famously, there was a working carousel in the parking lot that both adults and kids could ride.
It was a truly magical place, but the owners wanted to retire and no one stepped up to continue the business. The site was redeveloped, but to commemorate what was here before, the developers commissioned this whimsical mural for the new Ella apartment building. The carousel also stayed in the area and is now in the headquarters of Epic Systems in Verona, about 15 miles away. Enjoy the view while you look for this cache.
