Usually, the New Year's Day Hike is one of the privileges of being the SLAGA president. Another privilege is the ability to delegate some of the job duties. And this year, cootie_man decided to take this option and ask me, the sometime SLAGA secretary by appointment, to pick the location for the first event of the year.
After much thought, I have decide on hosting the event at Forest Park in the John F Kennedy Memorial Forest. We will meet at Picnic Pavilion #11 (and while there is a nearby restroom, I am uncertain if it is year round), swap some Cachemas tales and chat about caching in general. This event is a half hour meet-and-greet BEFORE the hiking begins and everyone is welcome, whether you plan on hiking or not.
The posted coordinates are for the parking area very near by the pavilion. We'll meet at 1:00 p.m. on New Year's Day. This is a later start so we can all recover from the night before and hopefully it will be a bit warmer than it would be if we had it earlier in the day. We'll hang around and visit until 1:30 p.m. or so with snacks and drinks of some kind provided (thanks to the actual President of SLAGA) before enjoying a hike.
Our hike for the day will be the Kennedy Forest Boardwalk trail.
Afterwards, feel free to hike some of the other 3+ miles of trails within the Memorial Forest or go to other areas within Forest Park to go caching.
