Williamson Valley Road Series: A Morgan Ranch Park Association History Project

Information about the history of the area can be found by reading the 3 MRPA books – Williamson Valley Road, Williamson Valley & Beyond and Prescott to Camp Wood: Cowboy Bill. Morgan Ranch Nature Park is 6 miles north on Williamson Valley Road, ¼ mile east on Nancy Dr. Find more information at our Williamson Valley Historical Society-E Facebook page. The cache page image is from a 1940 Tex Ritter film made a few miles from this site.

Cachers are required to obtain a permit to access STL. This permit ensures a responsible and sustainable exploration of the area. This link directs you to the necessary permit application process. https://land.az.gov/applications-permits.

  • Park, walk through the gate
  • Use a GPS, compass, etc. to walk to the posted coordinates
  • Count the bumps on the metal item (hint-correct number ends in 1)
  • Multiply the number of bumps by 11 to determine the number of feet to ground zero (final stage)
  • Point your GPS, compass, etc. to 258 degrees
  • Walk in that direction the number of feet you computed
  • Look for the container, sign the log
  • Do a  Happy Dancesmiley

Numerous geocachers have reported that their projections range from 12 to 70 ft from ground zero. This is an unusual situation possibly due to low Wi-Fi or  the proximity to electrical wires. Therefore, I suggest you use the number of feet that you computed, follow you projection along the path, look for a large tree with a crook at eye level. If you reach the fence, you are approximately 35 ft past the gz.
