Geocache Description:

Scroll to the bottom of the description for a history lesson of Hamilton and how this cache was named.

Cache inspired by GC93JC8 (Six Feet Under) placed by user: Grabham_and_Go

Do you ever get to a cache and think there is no way this gz is right!? This one will make you think that for sure!

Yes the gz puts you in the highway but, it's not in the highway. It's UNDER it! That's where the adventure and difficulty/terrain level comes into play with this cache!

You will need a flashligh and not always required but mud boots or old shoes are highly recommended.

CACHE IS NOT ON THE OLD BANK DRIVE THRU.

When found: Retrieve & replace cache softly & carefully to avoid dropping it.

I will be hiding Two trackable FTF coins in this cache. The larger for you to keep and the smaller to be put into circulation to watch it's travels.

When scouting out the location for this cache I found a traffic reflector from the nearby Smith & Jones cotton gin that I found out most likely came off an old cotton trailer.

Smith and Claybaugh gin was built in 1896. This cotton gin ran for almost 100 years until it closed down in the late 1980's. This gin during peak season would run almost 24 hours a day often creating heavy dust & smoke clouds from diffrent parts of the production process. It was almost unbearable but during my research I was told many downtown merchants gladly dealt with it because it brought revenue to the town. In 1946 a case tractor dealer locally known as "Smith & Jones" was added then in 1966 a New Holland Hay Machinery dealership was added. During the early 1900's the then active railroad through Hamilton also played a major role in all the local cotton gins ( was told there were possibly over 20 in Hamilton at one time!

For more rich small town America history please be sure to check out the museum on west Henry Street!  As I learn more about this location I'll try to edit the history portion of the cache description!
