Geocache Description:

This trail is designed to raise awareness of the history of Cyfarthfa Park in Merthyr Tydfil and its rich heritage in the local area.  Each cache will contain information about the park and is also in an easy to read format.  Quite close to this cache are a series of balance ponds constructed to supply water to the Cyfarthfa greenhouses, castle and the large lake.  The water was then pumped to the furnaces and utilised in the production of iron,  This area is rich in biodiversity.  One of the species which can frequently be spotted is the kingfisher.

Kingfishers have a third eyelid which acts like a pair of swimming goggles when it dives in the water to catch its prey!

The very fast Japanese bullet train was designed from the kingfishers beak making it very aerodynamic!!

They bash their prey on the head to kill it before eating it whole!!
