Ime parka nose i gradska četvrt koja obuhvaća teritorij obližnjih gradskih naselja, i stadion GNK Dinama.
U parku Maksimiru raste hrast lužnjak poznat kao "Dedek", starosti oko 600 godina. Nalazi se u blizini Mogile.

Maksimir Forest Park, the first in Southeast Europe, was opened in 1794 on the initiative of Bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac. In 1839, it was arranged in the English landscape style by Bishop Juraj Haulik. Most of the architectural objects are the works of the builder Franjo Schücht. The 316-hectare park[1] preserves the flora and fauna of the lowland forests, and there are also five lakes (some natural, some artificial).
At the southern end of the park-forest is the Zagreb Zoo.
The park's name is also shared by the city district, which includes the territory of nearby urban settlements, and the GNK Dinamo stadium.
In the Maksimir park, a 600-year-old oak tree known as "Dedek" grows. It is located near Mogila.
