I worked as apprentice carpenter and high scaler on Flaming Gorge Dam the summer of 1961 before leaving for school in the fall. Flaming Gorge Dam is 502 feet high and 1285 feet long with a generating capicaty of 151,950 kilowatts per nameplate. Construction of the dam was between the years 1958 through 1964. At the time I worked there; the way to Vernal, Utah was to travel toward Linwood, Utah; "now under water from the dam"; take a cut off road and cross a long swinging bridge over the Green River that came out near what today is Ceder Springs Marina. Cart Creek Bridge was constructed in 1962 as part of the realignment of US Hwy191 which terminates at the international border at Port Morgan: the road continues as Hwy 4 in Canada.
