About Menangle Park Station
Menangle Park Station is the first station on the Southern Line which is not electrified.
The line through this location opened on 1 September 1862. The first feature to be built at this location was a junction and siding to a station at Menangle Racecourse, located just to the west of the current station, which opened on 14 May 1914. Menangle Park station opened next on the main line on 26 September 1937. The racecourse platform/siding closed in February 1963. There is now no trace of the junction, however the racecourse platform still remains to the south.
The platforms are two cars long and designed to service the diesel trains which travel each hour to Moss Vale. The station is also used to change crews on freight trains. The station is unattended and has no ticket machine although an Opal reader is in place.
This area has not grown much in the last few years with a small number of houses close to the station. Menangle Park is however undergong rapid urban development as Sydney's urban fringe moves south. An exit from the M5 motorway due to open in 2024 will make access to this area much more convenient.
Club Menangle, located close to the station, is well worth a vist for a nice meal and refreshments.
