A Scout is Helpful.
Elizabeth Porter (1912 – 1999) is honored with a bronze statue and mural at this Marietta Park. She was the manager of an African American community center at this location for 22 years before she retired in 1974. On the mural you will find a quote – she said – "I didn’t try to make them famous or special. I tried to point them in the right way." The rec center that occupied this spot included space for kids to play sports, a small library and study area for students. There is a great playground and a waterpark here for everyone to enjoy now and the city continues to honor this very helpful citizen.
