The CAA (Cache Across the Avenues) DC Edition: This is a series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of all four quadrants of the District of Columbia. One cache is hidden on each of the 50 State Avenues (actually 48 Avenues + a Street and a Drive). These caches each contain a code word that will lead you to one final cache (to be placed) located in our nation's capitol upon completion of the series. We will be publishing these caches in batches of five, with the goal of having all 50 published by spring.
About this cache: This cache is placed along Missouri Ave. in the Brightwood neighborhood. This once rural community was characterized by summer homes and weekend estates. Brightwood was considered part of Washington County, which along with Washington City and Georgetown, made up the District of Columbia. At GZ, you will be looking at a historic building–the George M. Lightfoot House. The house is on private property so please only view it from the sidewalk. The house was built in 1892. George Lightfoot owned the house from 1917 until his death in 1947. He was a professor at Howard University. Professor Lightfoot held salons in this home for African American intellectuals including: Ralph Bunche, W.E.B DuBois, Alain Locke, Arthur Schomberg, and Carter G. Woodson.
