Pegleg Poutu was a prosperous pirate that ploughed the waves of the South Pacific. He periodically plundered Papeete, Palau, Pauanui, Papamoa and pretty much anywhere in Polynesia. His fearsome reputation preceded him wherever he progressed and whichever port he presented at. He was proud, presumptuous and plucky, and it's fair to say, wherever he popped up, he pocketed a pretty penny!
One day Poutu's ship, the Pacific Plague, plunged into a powerful and potent tempest of prodigious proportions. The swell pounded the Pacific Plague, and the persistant precipitation plummetted from the heavens threatening to put paid to Poutu and his posse permanently. Their position was properly precarious.
Then all of a sudden the clouds promptly parted, the Pacific Plague had persevered, and Poutu was now presented with an unpredictably pleasant but improbable picture. All was peaceful, but this place, Poutu could not put a name to. It was peculiar, poles apart from his precious Pacific. His beloved Pacific Plague, along with every pot, pan and person present on board had been transported, probably through a portal, to this place. He was puzzled, perplexed. Was this punishment for his plentiful past performances of poor practices? Perhaps...
But Poutu was neither penitent, nor a pessimist. He was a persistantly proud pirate and he was passionate for his preferred profession. No predicament could possibly put the providential Poutu down and he would not pine for his previous position. He proactively prepared the Pacific Plague and his prominent pack of pirates, and they proceeded to patrol and plunder this passage until their pulses petered out and they paid the ultimate price, permanently putting an end to their period on this planet. And so this piece of paradise was named Poutu, after the prodigious pirate.
It might sound implausible, proposterous, and unprecedented, not even possible, but I promise you, it's all partially true. And if you perambulate to the position published on this page, then you might just find a precious prize placed in this position by Poutu himself - probably an attempt to protect a portion of his profits. And if it's a still and placid night, you might just perceive the phenomenal phantasm of Pegleg Poutu's majestic Pacific Plague piercing through the primordial mist as it passes by, perennially patrolling up and down the Poutu Canal, perpetually probing the night for precious pieces to pilfer!
