Geocache Description:

About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breathtaking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveler, but anyone else can go and find it, too. More Information can be found on the  SideTracked Website.

This cache also qualifies for the Disappearing RR Blues bonus cache. This series highlights the railways of NW Oregon.

NOTE: This cache replaces a cache about this depot that was archived. This cache is in a different location from the prior cache.

About Aurora Train Depot

Aurora was founded as a cooperative commune by Dr. William Keil in 1856. Mr. Keil was a good friend of Ben Holladay, who was financing the Oregon and California Railroad construction between the two states. Thus, the O&C RR built its line through Aurora in 1869-1870. The date of construction of the current depot is not clear; there is a date of 1870, but I find that a little suspicious without further research as it looks more like a typical Southern Pacific Depot from around the late 1880s~1900. By the 1960s the railroad no longer needed the depot and started to fall into disrepair. According to the Aurora Colony Museum website, the depot was moved in 1990 from the Mill closer to the railroad tracks to its current location and was converted into an antique dealer.

The cache is a bit further from the old depot than my other Sidetracked caches, but it is visible from the cache location.
