Welcome to Austin College- founded in 1849, it is the oldest college in Texas still operating under its original charter. Named after Steven F Austin, the campus moved from Huntsville to Sherman in 1876. According to the campus's website, "three yellow fever epidemics, the Civil War, and difficult economic conditions prompted the College’s relocation to North Texas,". The school survived a harrowing fire in 1913 and first admitted women in 1918. This liberal arts school still has ties to the Presbyterian church. Their mascot is Katy the Kangaroo; their motto "Nothing but the Fierce" and their enrollment around 1,300 students.
Stage one will take you to "founders circle" with some fountain fixtures and plaques on the ground. Find the one in grey concrete that starts with "Alumni Memorial Student..." from 1951. Type in the surname on the final line of the plaque, in all caps. Then, head off to the second and final stage!
In regards to parking, I had no problems finding any on a Sunday. But while class is in session, you may need to park further into the neighborhood off to the east. If you start on this cache and complete the second one, you should have a full circular walking tour of the campus. I reserve the right to delete any online log based on integrity and am not forcing you to submit to risk and find this cache.
