Geocache Description:

28 January 2024, 14:00 - 16:30

About the Event

This event aims to gather geocachers from Faro and any visiting geocachers to spend a few hours in the afternoon participating in a cleanup campaign, helping the Ria Formosa Natural Park, while meeting other geocachers and nature enthusiasts.

The main goal is to show that anyone can do a little something towards the environment and engage in more sustainable habits. We can spread this motivating message through the geocaching community.

About the Location

The location is easily accessed by private transportation or bicycle. It is possible to park nearby, and the terrain offers no difficulties.

However, there are no public restrooms or available drinkable water nearby. Therefore, we advise you to bring your own reusable bottle of water.

As for equipment, feel free to bring your own pair of gloves and a few trash bags. But if you can not, do not worry. We can provide them for you.

About Projeto Gea

Projeto Gea - Σχέδιο Γης is a voluntary movement for a better planet that was born in Faro on Christmas Day 2019, with the initial purpose of creating a Christmas tradition together that was different and meaningful. Since we couldn't do something for the community, we decided to do something for the planet. So we went litter picking in Ria Formosa. We started doing cleanup campaigns in neighbourhoods, parks, and protected areas every weekend.

Our goal became to make people in the community aware of the existence and quantity of waste in the environment and the problem of waste pollution in general. Through our campaigns, we also try to demonstrate the importance of active volunteering and the power that small actions can have in the fight against pollution. Thus, we try to encourage people to become active agents of change for a better planet.

In the last 4 years, we have implemented more than 120 voluntary campaigns involving more than 150 people and collecting over 6.000 kg of trash and nearly 46.000 cigarette butts, both in Portugal and Greece.
