I have a personal connection with this place as my Italian father was taken here as a POW .
His comment “ The camp was quite nice consisting of a dozen Nissan huts , a nice Mess room , showers , toilets etc . We used one of the huts as a theatre which had a lovely stage and very good scenery and we had some good plays and variety shows, plus some films at the weekend , mostly American ones and propaganda ones but it was a big change for us ."
I found a photo of the theatre and dad had written the date Ocober 1943.
Continued : " Apart from the staff, hairdresser, tailor , cooks and cleaners , all the others had to go out to work on farms from 9 till 4 and they were dropped off at the various farms and were collected in the afternoon .
I was sorry to leave Lockerbie where we had also built a lovely chapel, which still stands today and it is used by the Catholic Ukrainians who live in the neighbourhood “
