Geocache Description:

Tawny frogmouth - Kambekor

The first cache in my neighbourhood bird cache series inspired by the birds I've seen and heard around the neighbourhood.

This small cache is inspired by the Tawny Frogmouth, also known as the Kambekor [cam’be’caw].

------------------------------------------------------

After seeing a Tawny Frogmouth disguising itself on a tuart tree in this small bush area a couple of years ago I decided to make a small cache inspired by the bird.

Tawny Frogmouths are found all around Australia and are often mistaken for owls but they are more closely related to nightjars. The nocturnal birds hunt at night with their diet consisting of mainly nocturnal insects, slugs, snails, small mammals, reptiles, birds and frogs. During the day they perch lower down on tree branches holding their heads high to appear like an extension of the tree. You can hear them at night, their call is a continuous low 'oom oom oom' and they also loudly hiss when they feel threatened.

Click here read more about and watch a video that shows their call.

The cache itself is a small container and can fit quite a few small trade items in it.
