Consolidated LiberatorOn March 16, 1942, the Consolidated Liberator AL577 crashed in bad weather on Slieve na Glogh on the Cooley Peninsula near Dundalk, Ireland. The aircraft, which was part of the RAF 108 Squadron, was flying from Egypt to England. Unfortunately, 15 of the 19 men on board lost their lives. This crash remains the worst wartime air crash in Ireland in terms of lives lost.

Memorial Plaque
At GZ there is a memorial plaque mounted on a crankshaft from one of the four engines from the plane.

The cache is located just off the Annaloughan Loop walk that starts and finishes at Fitzpatrick's Bar & Restaurant. This is the official start point for the walk.


Cache Logging Requirements

To log this Virtual Geocache, you must take a picture of your caching name with both the memoral plaque and the encased model B-24D aircraft in the background, and attach it to your found log.





Please Note:

  • The picture should clearly display your caching name with the memoral plaque and the encased model B-24D aircraft. Unclear pictures will not be accepted.

  • Your name must be included in the picture at the time of taking it and not added afterwards and it should not be digitally added.

  • Pictures taken from an unreasonable distance from GZ will not be accepted.

  • Do Not send me the picture, attach to your log.

  • Logs without a picture may be deleted without notification. If you plan to post the picture at later time, please post a "Write Note" rather than a "Found it" log.

  • In regards to Group pictures, the same photo is permitted but all names in the group must be included in the picture and readable. The group photo should be uploaded to the log of each finder.
