The Rethymno Lighthouse is a historic landmark located on the northern coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the city of Rethymno. It is situated at the end of the old harbor and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.
The lighthouse was first constructed by the Venetians in the 16th century, and its current form dates back to the early 20th century. It stands at a height of approximately 28 meters (92 feet) and is constructed of stone masonry.
The lighthouse has a cylindrical shape, with a white exterior and red trimmings. The top section of the lighthouse features a balcony that offers stunning views of the harbor and the surrounding sea. The lighthouse is still in operation today and is powered by electricity. Its light can be seen from up to 18 nautical miles away, making it an important navigational aid for ships in the area.
The Rethymno Lighthouse is a popular tourist attraction and a great spot for taking photos. Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for a small fee and enjoy panoramic views of the city and the sea. The area around the lighthouse is also home to many restaurants, cafes, and shops, making it a lively and bustling part of the city.
