If you watched Big Bang Theory, you'd know Sheldon is a fan of trains, and he would love this virtual cache. About 40 trains daily go by here, mostly freight trains by Amtrak goes by as well. While I was here taking photos, 2 freight trains and 1 Amtrak went by.
A few years ago this viewing platform was built for the rail fans. I often see families sitting here waiting to glimpse a train they've never seen before. I always thought these people were nerds, I mean who hangs out here waiting for a glimpse of a train to add to their collection .... there are more important things to do such as lift a lamp skirt so you can sign a piece of paper. It seems they are no different than us, they collect photos and keep track of different types of locomotive engines. We collect souviners, and try and fill in fizzy grids, jasmer grids, and check off states and counties.
I park here often when walking the dog in the village, so you may see my car charging at one of the free charging stations. Let me know if you see my car!
There are several ways you can log this virtual. Only 1 is required, but feel free to submit more for bonus points. For each, you can choose to include yourself, or just your hand giving the vulcan salute (hey, it's Sheldon afterall!) or a thumb's up if you don't want to look like a dork:
- From the viewing platform, wait for a train and take a photo of yourself/salute/thumb with a train as it goes by. Make sure some of the platform or the blue caboose is in the photo.
- If you don't want to wait for a train (which usually doesn't take long), please take a photo of yourself/salute/thumb on the platform with the blue caboose in the background.
- From either of the two additional waypoints listed, click the webcam link here to grab a photo of yourself. You can't zoom in, but if you are at either location it should be easy to identify you.

Interesting side note: when coming up with concepts, I had some thoughts I posted in a reviewer group and included a link to the webcam. A couple hours later I saw a response that one reviewer from another part of the country was watching while a car got smashed on the train. It looked like he was driving south, and made a right turn onto the tracks and got stuck. He got out of the car in time and was safe, but didn't seem to be in a hurry to get to safety. Obviously he didn't grow up in Fairport. The Fairport school system makes an effort to terrorize children every year with a train safety discussion. It went over the top and my son was terrified for years of crossing the tracks when we were in the village!
