Geocache Description:

There is a nautical item at the posted coordinates. To claim a find on this cache, post of photo of yourself (you do not need to include your face) or a signature item within the photo that identifies that you have visited this location, with the nearby nautical item in the background.

The trail along the river is known as the Ottawa River Pathway and it runs from this location through to Orleans and Tweddle Rd near Petrie Island. It’s a wide, well maintained trail, paved for much of the way and with great views of the river that change with every season. This trail is part of the much larger Capital Pathway which interlinks many parks, waterways and sites in Ottawa and Gatineau.

The posted coordinates take you to the point where the pathway intersects with the Rockcliffe Yacht Club, a 100-member “private co-op” style club which was originally part of CFB Rockcliffe until 1984.

The club is centred on a concrete ramp which extends 50 ft into the river and was originally used to launch RCAF sea planes. It now serves as one of the best boat launching ramps on the Ottawa river.

Rockcliffe Airport, at the top the hill, is the current home of the Rockcliffe Flying Club, continuing a long aviation tradition that started in 1918 with, then experimental, round-trip mail flights. Today you can see a steady stream of small planes coming and going as the airport provides a variety of services to aviation enthusiasts.

And, located on the other side of the airport, is the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum which focuses on aviation in Canada within an international context – from its beginnings in 1909 to today. It's a great place to visit if you’re in the area.

Congrats to rocketphish for FTF.
