Geocache Description:

We (Luttu and hippihiiri) are Finnish geocachers, and we visited this place in January 2024. We wanted to show this place also to other geocachers:

The clock tower

The capital, Tunis, is divided into the old city called medina, and the new city - "ville nouvelle". Avenue Habib Bourguiba is the large avenue running through the new city from the clock tower to the Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul.
The clock tower is 38 meters high and it was built in 2001.

The brutalist style hotel

If you take a look toward north-east, you can see an abandoned hotel called Hôtel du Lac. It is almost impossible not to be noticed, since the "Lake Hotel" is such a strange-looking building. It looks like it defies the gravity, as it is upside-down-looking pyramid-shaped concrete palace. The building was designed in the brutalist style by the Italian architect Raffaele Contigiani. It was built between 1970-1973 for the Tunisian government.

The hotel had 416 bedrooms, most of them in the upper floors. However, the hotel fell into disrepair and it was closed in 2000, after being 10 years under private ownership. For the last 10 years, there has been plans to demolish the building. Let's take a photo of the building while it is still there!

Your task should you accept it

Please take a photo that includes the clock tower, the brutalist hotel and something personal in the same photo. You don't have to be in the picture yourself, but please include something that is yours - a thumb, nametag, personal item, use your imagination :)
Please attach the picture to your log, or you can send it to me via message center or email, whichever you prefer.
