This Virtual Cache will bring you to a statue of George Rogers Clark, the Founding Father of the city of Louisville, KY. The statue is located on the Belvedere Plaza, a city park in downtown Louisville overlooking the Ohio River.

In 1778, 26 year old Clark led a small group of settlers and militia to what is now Louisville, named for King Louis XVI of France in appreciation for his assistance during the Revolutionary War. Clark went on to be the most successful American field commander of the American Revolution.
After the War, Clark built a cabin in the Louisville area and helped the city he founded become established. His sister Lucy lived nearby at Locust Grove, and his youngest brother William used Louisville as the staging area for what would become the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Brigadier General George Rogers Clark died at Locust Grove in 1818 at the age of 65 and is currently buried at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.
