Die Kölner Liebesbrücke



Seit etwa 2008 wurden hunderttausende so genannter „Liebesschlösser“ an den Geländern der Fußgängerwege der Hohenzollernbrücke angebracht.

Die Schlösser werden von Paaren angebracht, die ein Zeichen für die – zumindest geplante – Dauerhaftigkeit ihrer Liebe anbringen. Das Vorhängeschloss wird mit den Namen oder den Initialen des Paares versehen, häufig auch mit einem Datum, und am Zaun befestigt. Dann wird der Schlüssel zum Schloss von der Brücke in den Rhein geworfen.

Das Zusatzgewicht der Schlösser wurde immer wieder einmal mit bangem Blick auf die Statik der ca. 24.000 Tonnen schweren Hohenzollernbrücke diskutiert. Schätzungen gingen 2011 bereits von einem Gewicht der seinerzeit vermuteten ca. 40.000 Schlösser von zwischen 2 und 15 Tonnen aus. Die Deutsche Bahn AG sah jedoch keine Gefahr für die Brückenstatik und konnte die Sorgen beruhigen. Das Unternehmen duldet daher diesen offenbar aus Italien stammenden, weltweit gepflegten Brauch:
„Allein ein Regionalexpress mit fünf Doppelstockwagen ohne Fahrgäste wiegt fast 350 Tonnen. Da fallen die Schlösser nicht ins Gewicht.“

Im Juni 2015 wurde die Anzahl der Schlösser mittels Stichprobenzählungen und unter Berücksichtigung der ungleichen Verteilung der Schlösser entlang der Brücke auf 500.000 plus/minus 200.000 geschätzt. Heute dürften es locker mehr als 1.000.000 Schlösser sein.


Um diesen Cache zu loggen, beantworte bitte folgende Frage per Email über mein Profil (Du brauchst nicht auf eine Logfreigabe zu warten, ich melde mich, wenn etwas nicht stimmt) und erfülle folgende Aufgabe:
  • Mache ein Foto von Dir, Deinem GPS oder einen persönlichen Gegenstand auf der Liebesbrücke und füge es Deinem Log bei.
  • An obiger Koordinate findest Du ein großes Schloss mit drei Affen (Spoiler). In unmittelbarer Nähe hängt ein rotes/pinkes Schloss von Rico und Adelina. Welches Datum trägt es?

Cologne's Love Locks Bridge



Both the desire for eternal love and the need to indicate it with a sign have an unbroken tradition for many people: While it was once the carved heart in the tree or D+T with the sharpie pen on the school toilet door, today lovers in Germany and throughout Europe show and strengthen their love mainly with durable and extremely visible padlocks.

Since 2008, thousands of locks have also been glittering on the Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne: close together, like a metal body full of vows of love. A stroll across the bridge to the Deutz side of the river and back is worth your while — especially on sunny days — not only because of the love locks but also because of the fantastic panorama of the city centre and the Rhine.

Tons of love stories: the number and weight of the locks

By the way, one of the most frequently asked questions in Cologne is how many love locks are already hanging on the Hohenzollern Bridge. While the estimates in 2011 were around 40,000, the amount of love locks today probably exceeds several hundred thousand.

On the basis of the density of locks per metre, a physicist calculated in 2015 that the number was somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000 locks — an enormous deviation from the estimate made a few years earlier. However, the weight of the locks (about 45 tonnes) is probably not a safety concern for the statics.
