Geocache Description:

As you explore the Country Club District of Kansas City, Missouri, look for an unusual sight: the nose of a Concorde aircraft elegantly displayed behind one of the grand homes on Ward Parkway. Encased in glass, this iconic piece of aviation history is easily visible from the road, and the story behind how it arrived here is even more remarkable.

The Concorde, which revolutionized air travel in the 1960s by flying passengers across the Atlantic at supersonic speeds, saw only 20 planes built. While most were used for commercial flights by Air France and British Airways, this particular nose section came from an aircraft dismantled and sold at auction.

Aviation enthusiast and former airline executive Farhad Azima purchased the nose in London during the 1990s. But his plans for this piece go far beyond mere display—Azima envisions using it as his unique burial casket, making it the world’s first supersonic sarcophagus. Azima says, “People always ask me why I bought it. I tell them, ‘I want to be buried in it.’”

You can safely view this fascinating artifact by parking along W 59 Terrace and walking along the public sidewalk. Please do not enter the yard; the Concorde Nose is on private property but is easily viewable from the sidewalk. This piece of aviation history is worth the stop!
