The Tower of David (Hebrew: מגדל דוד, romanized: Migdál Davíd) is a misnomer, since it has nothing to do with King David. Rather, it's a prominent 17th-century minaret at the south-western corner of the Jerusalem Citadel, located near the Jaffa Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem. Over the years it was adopted as a symbol of Jerusalem and has been widely adopted by all. Its likeness can be found on countless stamps, medals, and paintings. After the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967, the entire citadel was renamed "Tower of David".
You can learn much more about the Tower of David and the history of Jerusalem at the Tower of David Museum, which is inside the citadel. However, there is no need to go there to log this cache.
To log this virtual you must do at least 3 of the following 4 tasks:
1. Post a photo of your hand or any flat item positioned so that it looks like it's "lifting" the Tower of David on a platter. No cheating!
2. Post a photo of the Tower of David on a unique object (e.g. coin, stamp, rug, etc.), which no other log posted yet.
3. Write about your experiance. Where are you coming from? What brought you to Jerusalem? What was your impression of the city? What was your favorite thing to do or see in the city?
4. Research: What is the height of the minaret in meters. Send me the answer via message (not email). Hint: Count the number of stones.
Notes:
While the minaret is the most iconic / recognizable structure, almost all the historical research was done on other, far older towers in the citadel. When doing research, make sure you are reading about the minaret, and not something else.
Logs with any significant missing requirements will be deleted. So please double check.
You may log as a group, but then you MUST write in your log who is responsible for sending in the answers.
