Geocache Description:

We were lucky enough to be given the chance to set up a virtual cache, as part of Virtual Rewards 4.0, and decided to bring people to Sandy Pinnacle – a location with wonderful views but where it would be difficult to hide a quality physical cache.

Please note: this location is at the top of a fairly steep hill. From some directions there are steps that can be used, but the terrain cannot be described as "easy".

Sandy Pinnacle is an area of heath and woodland on the east side of Sandy. The top of the Pinnacle itself offers views of the Bedfordshire countryside westwards, across the Ivel valley towards and beyond the Great Ouse.

Immediately beneath the Pinnacle, between this location and the town, runs the East Coast Main Line, with trains running between London and Edinburgh, and places between. In days gone by, the Varsity Line between Oxford and Cambridge crossed the East Coast Main Line here, the two running alongside each other for a short distance, just below the Pinnacle.

In the woods to the east are the remains of “Caesar’s Camp”, an Iron Age defensive hillfort that may have been reused in Roman times. Of course, it is unlikely that anyone with the title “Caesar” ever visited.

To claim this virtual

Please take a photo of the view with St. Swithun’s Church in the background (the large, traditional-looking Church of England church in Sandy, just below the Pinnacle), including a “High Five” hand gesture in the shot. Please include the photo with your “Found it” log and this will be accepted as proof of you being at the location.
