Geocache Description:

This virtual highlights the history of the Albany Municipal airport. Albany hosted the first flight of an Oregon built airplane by John Burkhart or a field near current Queen and Ferry streets named Goltra field. When Goltra field was established in 1909 it became the first airport in the northwest and the 3rd to open in the US.

In 1929, the city of Albany bought the current field that a 13-year old self taught pilot, Charles Langmack was renting and built the current Hangar. He went on to have a long career in Aviation in The Military and was Oregon's first registered pilot in 1929. They built the current hangar building, using a unique lattice construction. from 1929-1947 it was the second busiest airport in Oregon after Portland.

The building of I-5 in 1958, The large Hangar and the rotating beacon and a small workshop were moved 350 feet east and 100 feet south. In the pictures original building, there were living quarters for the resident flight instructor, Evelyn Burleson, an early aviation pioneer and mechanics.

The building has recently been leased for restoration and will more often be open to the public. The entrance if it is open is on the north. The ceiling trusses are unique!

To answer this virtual, tell me the 3 number address on the building (north side). THIS IS ALSO YOUR CODE WORD
