Geocache Description:

Adin Randall came to Eau Claire in 1855. He was originally from New York, but arrived here from Madison. He became a land contractor, builder, and lumberman. He also built a very early hotel – the Eau Claire House – operated a very early ferry and a very early sawmill, and built our first jail. He owned much of the land around Randall Park and had the parcel platted as “Eau Claire City.” In that way, he helped give Eau Claire its name.

Although he was one of our city’s first promoters, Adin never got rich. He died at 37, shockingly young even for the time, leaving a wife and six kids. Lumberman Orrin Ingram paid for the statue, which has been here since 1913.

I chose this location for my virtual reward because so few people remember the contributions made to the city by early leaders, like Adin Randall. Another reason, is that when I worked for the City of Eau Claire, I was often asked come to this location and maintain this statue. It has been a long standing Eau Claire tradition for college students to place a garbage can over the Adin Randall statue, so I got quite familiar with this underused park and statue.

To get credit for this virtual cache, please complete the 2 requirements:

1. On the back of the bronze statue, there are 3 words inscribed on the statue, just before the letters NY. What are those 3 words?

2. Take a picture of yourself in front the statue, so not to post a spoiler. If you do not want to post a picture of yourself, you may use instead a picture of your caching name in front of the statue. Thank you!
