Castel Toblino, situato nella bella Valle dei Laghi, è un raro esempio di castello lacustre e uno dei più celebri del Trentino. Deve sicuramente la sua fama alla singolare posizione arroccata su una piccola e protetta penisola ( generatasi dal distaccamento di una porzione di roccia dalla montagna sovrastante ) bagnata dall' omonimo lago. La sua collocazione ha evidenti motivi di strategia difensiva che qui sfrutta sia le condizioni naturali del terreno, sia la presenza dell' importante nodo stradale di collegamento tra Trento e le Valli del Sarca e del Chiese.
La forma quadrangolare del complesso trova uno dei segni di maggior interesse nel grande mastio circolare di origine medievale. Un ulteriore carattere distintivo è dato dall' ampia cinta merlata che circonda tutto il complesso e il grande parco circostante la residenza. Il castello attualmente è di proprietà privata ed è possibile visitarlo previa prenotazione.
STORIA
Fin dal XII secolo il castello fu proprietà di vassalli del principe vescovo di Trento. La famiglia dei Da Campo ne entrò in possesso nel Duecento e dalla fine del Quattrocento rientrò nell'orbita dei beni vescovili. Passati i secoli di lotta e di contrasti tra le varie famiglie nobili del principato, il castello conobbe gli anni della tranquilla gestione clesiana e madruzziana, periodo al quale sono ascrivibili i maggiori lavori di restauro e trasformazione. Dal XVI secolo Toblino divenne sede periferica della corte trentina. Qui soggiornarono gli illustri ospiti del principe vescovo, si incontrarono i legati pontifici giunti a Trento per il Sacro Concilio e dimorarono molti personaggi facoltosi della corte vescovile. Tra il 13 e il 14 aprile 1848 fu sede di una battaglia tra i Corpi Volontari Lombardi ( che tentavano di marciare verso Trento ) e l' esercito imperiale austriaco : questi ultimi tuttavia, in forte inferiorità numerica, si ritirarono in attesa di rinforzi.
IL SENTIERO DI VISITA
Percorrendo il sentiero avrai modo di incontrare la Riserva naturale nei suoi aspetti e panorami più suggestivi, e nel contempo di effettuare una piccola ma piacevole escursione senza difficoltà. Lungo il tracciato, alcune tabelle offrono " spunti per vedere " e suggeriscono una breve sosta per osservare e gustare gli aspetti più preziosi della Riserva.
L' intero percorso di visita al Lago ed al Castello è più ampio, ma per ques'anno è accessibile solo il breve tratto proposto in questa Virtual.

Castel Toblino, located in the beautiful Valle dei Laghi, is a rare example of a lakeside castle and one of the most famous in Trentino. It certainly owes its fame to its singular position perched on a small and protected peninsula ( generated by the detachment of a portion of rock from the mountain above ) bathed by the lake of the same name. Its location has clear reasons for a defensive strategy which exploits both the natural conditions of the terrain and the presence of the important road junction between Trento and the Sarca and Chiese valleys.
The quadrangular shape of the complex finds one of the most interesting signs in the large circular keep of medieval origin. A further distinctive character is given by the large crenellated wall that surrounds the entire complex and the large park surrounding the residence. The castle is currently privately owned and can be visited by reservation.
HISTORY
Since the 12th century the castle was the property of vassals of the prince bishop of Trento. The Da Campo family came into possession of it in the thirteenth century and from the end of the fifteenth century it returned to the orbit of the bishop's possessions. Once the centuries of struggle and contrasts between the various noble families of the principality had passed, the castle experienced the years of quiet Clesian and Madruzzian management, a period to which the major restoration and transformation works can be attributed. From the 16th century Toblino became the peripheral seat of the Trentino court. The illustrious guests of the prince bishop stayed here, the papal legates who came to Trento for the Sacred Council met and many wealthy people from the bishop's court stayed here. Between 13 and 14 April 1848 it was the site of a battle between the Lombard Volunteer Corps ( which attempted to march towards Trento ) and the imperial Austrian army: the latter, however, greatly outnumbered, retreated to await reinforcements.
THE VISITING PATH
By following the path you will have the opportunity to encounter the nature reserve in its most evocative aspects and views, and at the same time to carry out a small but pleasant excursion without difficulty. Along the route, some tables offer " ideas to see " and suggest a short stop to observe and enjoy the most precious aspects of the Reserve.
The entire visit route to the Lake and the Castle is wider, but for this year only the short section proposed in this Virtual is accessible.
