The Round Island Lighthouse was built on a barrier island of the same name off the mouth of the Pascagoula River being completed in 1859. Deeded to the city of Pascagoula in 1986, it was undermined by Hurricaine Georges and toppled by Hurricaine Katrina. In 2010, the remains were barged to the mainland and the lighthouse was restored over the next 5 years.
The cache is available 24/7. At the time of publication, the lighthouse is open to visit the top floor on Friday and Saturday from 10-5. Price of admission (cash only) is: students K5-12($1), adults ($2) and groups of 20 or more ($1).
There are hopes to increase the hours and add closer parking.
