The poverty and working conditions in the United States weren’t much better than what they experienced in their homeland, but they sacrificed much for a better life for their future generations. Now 16% of Sioux Falls’ population is of Irish descent.
"The colored bronze “Potato Man” statue was created by New York artist Susan Giessler. It was in the 2006 Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk, purchased by several Irish residents and donated it to the city.
