Geocache Description:

James Earl Carter, Jr was the governor of Georgia when I was a little girl.  He went on to become the 39th President of the United States.  Former President Carter is perhaps better known for his acts that followed his presidency than his actual tenure in the White House.  He and his wife Rosalynn promoted human rights, creating the Carter Center in Atlanta.  The former President earned a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 in recognition of his efforts.  The Carter Center was instrumental in efforts to eliminate guinea worm disease, a devastating disease which incapacitates its victims.  He and Mrs. Carter were very involved in Habitat for Humanity and the Carters frequently worked on building houses in Georgia.  The town of Plains embraced the Carters and continue to do so.

I hope that you will enjoy your visit to the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site here in Plains.  Going inside is not necessary to find the answers but highly encouraged as it is a treasure trove of information about President Carter.  In order to receive credit for your visit, please respond to the following questions by sending me a message through Geocaching or sending me an email.

  • What year was the Friendship Garden started outside Plains High School?
  • What building serves as the museum and education center of the historic site?
  • To whom is the sundial near the end of the driveway dedicated?
  • Include a picture of yourself in front of the sign for the Historic Site, with a thumbs up, please. You must respond to the questions and provide the picture in order to submit a valid log.

Many thanks for your visit and geocache on!
