FORSYTH PARK

Forsyth Park, established in 1841, is a premier example of the role of landscape architecture and urban planning in the United States during the nineteenth century.

Older than either Central Park or Prospect Park in New York City, Forsyth Park is a very early expression of the American Public Park Movement, where communities constructed public open spaces as retreats from urban life. Forsyth Park offered the residents of Savannah, the thirty-third largest city in the U.S. in 1840, a carefully conceived and constructed open space for residents seeking both passive and active recreation.

The center piece of the park is the Forsyth Park fountain. It is over 150 years old and has aged extremely well. A fun fact is: The fountain was actually ordered by catalog and the water is dyed green on St. Patrick's Day.

To proof that you've been there answer the following question:

1. On the plaque, "Signatures of Savannah", send me the name of the LAST signature on the right column.

 2. Also, to proof you've been there recently, post a picture of a personal item or yourself with the fountain in the background in your log  (after all, this is the most photographed structure of all in Savannah!).
