Für den Fall, dass die Schranke geschlossen ist, kann das Cachemobil am Parkplatz P1 abgestellt werden. Die Burg ist über einen asphaltierten Weg zu Fuß erreichbar. Daher ist die T-Wertung etwas höher angesetzt. Erstellung des benötigten Logfotos ist auch im Bereich des äußeren Torzwingers möglich.
Prinzipiell kann dieser Cache auch bei geschlossener Schranke mit Rollstuhl bzw. Kinderwagen absolviert werden. |
Die Giechburg bei Scheßlitz
Erstmals 1125 erwähnt, war die Giechburg seit 1390 im Besitz der Bamberger Bischöfe. Sie wurde in kriegerischen Zeiten mehrmals abgebrannt und um 1600 neu aufgebaut. Dank ihrer starken Befestigungsanlagen überstand die Burg den Dreißigjährigen Krieg und wurde erst nach der Säkularisation zur "malerischen Ruine".
Eine besondere Imposanz entfaltet die langgestreckte Nordfront auf ihrem Felsriff aus Kalkstein. Ihre Rondelle wurden fast komplett rekonstruiert, enthalten aber ältere Fragmente. Vor dem monumentalen Renaissancetor erstreckt sich ein trutziges Vorwerk mit der Wappentafel des Fürstbischofs. Den weitläufigen Innenhof umsäumt ein dreiflügeliger Renaissancebau, dessen Nordflügel eine besonders schmuckvolle Ausgestaltung erfuhr. Blickfang ist der wuchtige Hauptturm/Bergfried (13 x 13 m; Mauerdicke 2,6 m) des frühen 12. Jahrhunderts.
Auf 520 Metern Höhe wird ein fantastischer Blick über das Bamberger Land geboten.
Die sieben Wehrtürme sind durch eine etwa 400 Meter lange Wehrmauer verbunden. Bei einem Rundgang über das Burggelände gibt es viele Details der Burg zu entdecken. So kann man an der Außenmauer neben Balkenauflagern für Aborte auch rekonstruierte Schießscharten in den alten Wehrtürmen entdecken.
An der Nord-West Ecke der Wehranlage befindet sich der Feulturm (Waypoint F1).
Dieser Turm ist von zwei prächtigen Wasserspeiern geschmückt, welche Drachenköpfe verkörpern.

The Giechburg near Scheßlitz
First mentioned in 1125, Giechburg Castle was owned by the bishops of Bamberg from 1390 and was burnt down several times in times of war and rebuilt around 1600. Thanks to its strong fortifications, the castle survived the Thirty Years' War and only became a “picturesque ruin” after secularisation.
The elongated north front on its limestone cliff is particularly imposing. Its roundels have been almost completely reconstructed, but contain older fragments. In front of the monumental Renaissance gate is a defiant porch with the prince-bishop's coat of arms. The spacious inner courtyard is surrounded by a three-winged Renaissance building, the north wing of which is particularly ornate. The eye-catcher is the massive main tower (13 x 13 metres; wall thickness 2.6 metres) from the early 12th century.
At 520 metres above sea level, it offers a fantastic view over the Bamberg countryside.
The seven fortified towers are connected by a 400 metre long defensive wall. There are many details to discover on a tour of the castle grounds. On the outer wall, for example, you can discover reconstructed embrasures in the old defence towers as well as beam supports for privies.
At the north-west corner of the fortification stands the Feulturm (Waypoint F1).
This tower is adorned with two magnificent gargoyles, each in the shape of a dragon's head.
