Vršek u Vestce a kaple Povýšeni sv. Kříže
Zřícenina barokní kaple Povýšení sv. Kříže se nachází na vrcholu Břístevské hůry, tzv. Vršku u Vestce „Kreuzberg“ v nadmořské výšce 278 metrů nad mořem (v bezprostřední blízkosti dálnice D11 Praha – Hradec Králové u exitu 18).
Byla postavena z kamene a cihel v roce 1714 z darů farníků na podnět faráře Karla Heislera. Kaple měla základy půdorysu ve tvaru centrálního kříže o délce 11,92m a šířce 10,40m. V roce 1764 byla kaple zasažena bleskem a vyhořela. V roce 1816 byla opravena, ale 30. dubna 1818 při „pálení čarodejnic“ jeden z hořících oharků dopadl na šindelovou střechu a ta se vznítila a kaple opět vyhořela.V roce 1878 na Vršku opět hořelo a z kaple už zbyly jen obvodové zdi.
Nedávno byl na jižní straně je mezi vstupem umístěn zavěšený kříž, který dokresluje mystickou atmosféru. Z barokní kaple Povýšení sv. Kříže a Vršku u Vestce se stalo romantické místo s krásnými výhledy na polabskou krajinu. Severním směrem jsou vidět dvě další hůrky Semická a Přerovská.
Při dobrém počasí je možné vidět i Bezdězy a Krkonoše.
Nádherné jsou na Vršku východy a západy slunce, při kterých se prý zjevuje bílá postava z místní pověsti:
„Jeden místní sedlák rozhodl, že si ze zničeného božího místa odveze dlaždice. Komu jsou tam zapotřebí? A jemu zvelebí stavení. Přijel v noci s povozem ke zřícenině, ani nezačal vylamovat dlaždice z podlahy, když ze tmy vystoupila vysoká bílá postava. Bylo to strašné. Přízrak se tyčil vysoko nad propadlou klenbou. Hlava jako by se ztrácela v hvězdné obloze. Sedlák vzal do zaječích, roznemohl se, a za čas zemřel. Ale z původní dlažby, kterou ochraňoval duch, v rozvalené kapli přesto nezůstala ani jediná… „

The "Knoll" by Vestec and the Chapel "Elevation of the Holly Cross"
The ruins of baroque chapel "Elevation of the Holly Cross" are situated on the top of Břístev hill, so called"Knoll", near Vestec "Kreuzberg", at the altitude of 278 m above sea level in the vicinity of highway D 11 (Prague - Hradec Kralove, exit 18).
It was built of stone and brick in 1714 from parishioners' gifts at the initiative of parish priest Karl Heisler.The chapel had a central cross-shaped foundation with a length of 11.92m and a width of 10.40m. In 1764 the chapel was struck by lightning and burnt down. It was repaired in 1816, but on 30 April 1818, during the 'witch burning', one of the burning embers fell on the tiled roof and it caught fire and the chapel burned again. In 1878 the "Knoll" was again on fire and only the outer walls of the chapel remained.
Recently, a hanging cross has been placed on the south side between the entrance, which illustrates the mystical atmosphere. The Baroque chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the"Knoll" at Vestec have become a romantic place with beautiful views of the Labe countryside. Two other hills, Semice and Přerov, can be seen to the north. In good weather it is also possible to see Bezdězy and Krkonoše mountains.
Beautiful are the sunrises and sunsets at the "Knoll" during which a white figure from local legend is said to appear:
"A local farmer decided to take tiles from the destroyed god's place. Who needs them there? And he's going to improve his place. He arrived at the ruins at night with a cart, and hadn't even begun to break the tiles from the floor when a tall white figure stepped out of the darkness. It was terryfying. The phantom towered high above the sunken vault. The head seemed to disappear into the starry sky. The peasant ran away, fell ill, and soon died. However, of the original pavement, which the ghost had protected, not a single tile remained in the ruined chapel... "
Those who will have the courage to spend the night at the chapel may see the mysterious spirit.
