Uno de los proyectos de urbanismo más ambiciosos y personales tuvo lugar en la Ciudad de México en las últimas décadas del siglo XIX.
Nació bajo el nombre de Paseo de la Emperatriz y después adoptó el nombre actual de Paseo de la Reforma.
Una de las avenidas más importantes de la capital mexicana, construida bajo el mandato de Maximiliano de Habsburgo y Carlota Amalia de Bélgica, quienes llegaron en 1864 a México como emperadores, en un gobierno monárquico impuesto por la invasión e intervención que Francia mantuvo entre 1862 y 1867.
A su llegada a México, los emperadores buscaron un lugar adecuado para establecer su residencia y decidieron instalarse en el Castillo de Chapultepec, único que podría llenar sus expectativas de vida y asemejarla a la que tenían en Europa. Para eso, fue necesario mover la ubicación del Colegio Militar, que hasta entonces ocupaba las instalaciones del castillo, para después hacer importantes remodelaciones que lo acondicionaran como una morada digna para un emperador y su esposa, hasta finalmente convertirlo en una verdadera residencia imperial.
La construcción del Paseo de la Emperatriz se debió a los insistentes reclamos de Carlota hacia Maximiliano, ya que él no regresaba todas las noches al castillo. El camino de aproximadamente 6 kilómetros de largo que tenía que recorrer el emperador para regresar al Castillo de Chapultepec después de un día de trabajo en el Palacio Nacional, ubicado en el centro de la ciudad, estaba en malas condiciones durante la época de lluvia, lo que causaba que el carruaje real se detuviera o atascara.
De acuerdo con algunos historiadores de la época, la ausencia del emperador en el Castillo también tenía relación con que a Maximiliano le gustaba pernoctar en la ciudad para convivir alegremente con mujeres, lo que enfurecía a la emperatriz Carlota y la llenaba de celos.
Finalmente, tras una serie de discusiones, Maximiliano encargó la construcción de una vía en línea recta para comunicar el Castillo de Chapultepec con la Glorieta del Caballito, que era el último punto en el camino desde el Palacio Nacional hasta el Castillo, antes de abandonar los límites de la entonces mancha urbana de la ciudad.
Para hacer válido tu marca de encontrado, deberás llegar al punto en el que seguramente se ubicaba la emperatriz Carlota para poder observar al carruaje real acercándose de regreso al castillo y tomar una fotografía de ti mismo, tomada de espaldas, para que estés de cara al Paseo de la Emperatriz, con las manos en alto y sosteniendo un teléfono celular o un GPS en alguna de tus manos. Podrás marcarlo como encontrado en cualquier momento y tendrás un tiempo razonable para adjuntar la foto a tu registro. Los registros que no contengan fotografía después de dos semanas serán eliminados.

One of the most ambitious and personal urban planning projects took place in Mexico City in the last decades of the 19th century.

The construction of the Paseo de la Emperatriz was due to Charlotte's insistent complaints towards Maximilian, since he did not return to the castle every night. The approximately 6 kilometer long path that the emperor had to travel to return to Chapultepec Castle after a day of work at the National Palace, located in the center of the city, was in poor condition during the rainy season, causing the royal carriage to stop or get stuck.
According to some historians of the time, the absence of the emperor in the Castle was also related to the fact that Maximilian liked to spend the night in the city to live happily with women, which angered the Empress Charlotte and filled her with jealousy.
Finally, after a series of discussions, Maximilian commissioned the construction of a road in a straight line to connect the Chapultepec Castle with the Glorieta del Caballito, which was the last point on the road from the National Palace to the Castle, before abandoning the limits of the then urban area of the city.
To validate your found mark, you must reach the point where the Empress Charlotte was surely located to be able to observe the royal carriage approaching back to the castle. Take a photograph of yourself, from behind to show you facing the Paseo de la Emperatriz, with your hands up and holding a cell phone or GPS in one of your hands. (a sample pic is included)
