Malmbrytning i Sköldingetrakten har förekommit sedan 1600-talet, medan den i just Kantorpsområdet påbörjades på 1820-talet.
Här bröts järnmalm 1866–1967, med underjordsbrytning på nivåer ner till 373 meter. Den 68 meter höga gruvlaven var väl synlig för förbipasserande på Västra stambanan och riksväg 55. Gruvan var den ojämförligt största i Sörmland.
Den 9 mars 2010 totalförstördes gruvlaven och intilliggande byggnader i en kraftig brand då tornet brann invändigt från botten till toppen.
Loggkrav
För att få logga måste du ta en bild på dig själv från trappan ut mot sjön med en lapp där ditt geocachingnamn och dagens datum syns, ansiktet behöver inte synas. Loggar som inte uppfyller kravet kommer att tas bort utan förvarning.

Ore mining in the Sköldinge region has occurred since the 17th century, while it began in the Kantorp area in the 1820s.
Iron ore was mined here in 1866–1967, with underground mining at levels down to 373 meters. The 68-meter-high headframe was clearly visible to passers-by on the railroad and national highway 55. The mine was incomparably the largest in Sörmland.
On March 9, 2010, the headframe and adjacent buildings were completely destroyed in a severe fire as the tower burned internally from bottom to top.
Logging requirements
You must take a picture of yourself from the stairs out towards the lake with a note where your geocaching name and today's date are visible, the face does not have to be visible. Logs that do not meet the requirement will be removed without warning.
