Jim Bowie was a noted knife-fighting legend, known for an infamous 1827 brawl with several men on a sandbar outside of Natchez, Mississippi. It is believed that Rezin Bowie designed a large knife for his brother, Jim, which now bears his name.
Bowie’s lasting fame came as a result of his presence and leadership at the Battle of the Alamo. In death, he became a great hero and today he is widely revered in Texas, along with his brothers-in-arms Colonel William Travis and Davy Crockett.
